Every problem has a solution in the same way for every diseases or error there are researchers and investigators who dig the problem out for better and efficient solution. Firstly medicines were developed for cure, for developing the burned and damaged skin to normal or reflecting minimal effect with the medical use.
With regular innovation and experiment by scientists led to the introduction of completely a new type of malleable, with the feature like self healing and fully recyclable ‘electronic skin.’ The device compatibility is enormous as claimed by researchers i.e. ranging from robotics to prosthetic development to develop better biomedical devices. This electronic skin is also known as e-skin like e-commerce, e-mail etc. it’s a thin translucent materials that cam imitate the function and mechanical properties of human skin.
The study of new skin includes sensors embedded to measure pressure, temperature, humidity and air flow too. The technology involves variety of properties like novel type of covalently bounded with dynamic network polymer, scientifically known as polyamine. In order to provide better mechanical strength, chemical stability and electrical conductivity it has been laced with silver nano-particles.
Jianliang Xiao, from University of Colorado Boulder in the U.S., researcher used a unique technique for chemical bonding of polyamine permitting the e-skin to be both self-healing and fully recyclable at room temperature. The recyclability of e-skin makes good economic and environmental sense when researchers acknowledged about millions tons of electronic waste generated worldwide every year.
Benefits that are provided by e-skin is remarkable as it can be easily adjusted to curved surfaces similar like human arms and robotic hands by the covering of minimal heat and pressure to it without having any extra stresses. It is just like a robot that will take care of robots which will require integration of e-skin on the fingers of robot feeling the pressure of baby.
Researcher Zhang explains this idea is to just mimic biological skin with e-skin with the desired and required functions. For the recycling of skin the device is poured into recycling solution, developing the polymers degrade into oligomers and monomers that are soluble in ethanol.
